Pictured here in the proverbial garage, rehersing with my first garage band, a white-boy Reggae endevor who's name I cannot recall. (Norman OK, Summer '84)

Here's my very first gig with the Reggae band. We're on stage in the Norman High School Cafeteria. (Norman OK, Fall '84)

Wow! Found this fine pic of a Flaming Lips gig at the Theater Gallery in Dallas TX, 1985. That's me hunched behind the PA speaker, doing my job as "roadie/guitar tech" and waiting for the encore which was me being introduced as "Fat Elvis" and singing Suspicious Minds. Too wierd to make up, people. For years I was known around Dallas simply as Fat Elvis. In turn, I grew sideburns to match.

Fast forward a few years, move to Dallas TX and form a very loud punk rock band, the Bedrockers with 2 guys who were still living with thier parents. Pictured here was our highest profile gig, opening for infamous "rape rockers" the Mentors at the Theatre Gallery. We broke up soon afterwards. (Dallas TX, Summer '87)

Here I am playing with Rev. Horton Heat and our pal bluesman Josh Alan (filling in for my hero, original Heat bassist Jack Barton, who was down with the flu.) This was the first and last time Jim Heath ever played with an electric bass. Or with me for that matter. (Dallas TX, Fall '87) |

Here's an auspicious moment. This is my very first gig as a string bassist. I've owned this bass a mere 8 days prior to be asked to join Killbilly. On the right is Stephen J. Trued, of blessed memory, who taught me my first bluegrass song (Cumberland Gap) and set me off on the course I trod today. I never met a nicer fellow. (Spring '88) |
